Corten Architectural Forms for Ganja Memorial Complex

Ganja Memorial Landscape – Custom Corten Steel Architecture

The Ganja Memorial Landscape stands as one of the most technically ambitious corten steel projects completed in Azerbaijan. Designed and fabricated entirely in-house, the complex combines commemorative symbolism with highly precise metal engineering.

At the heart of the memorial is the Corten Memorial Wall, a curved structure with a concealed internal frame assembled on bolted joints. The laser-cut inscriptions are illuminated by internal LED lighting, creating a striking 3D effect without the need for additional plastic layers. Installed in just one day, the wall anchors the entire composition both visually and symbolically.

Equally distinctive is the spiral-shaped corten planter, stretching over 250 meters and aligned precisely on a pre-cast concrete base. Its construction required a fully custom system of bolted joints and in-house manufactured segments — a feat that allowed the spiral to follow the concrete path while housing a layered containment system of stone, isolation, and soil. This not only supports planting but also ensures drainage and long-term durability. Integrated wooden benches curve seamlessly with the planter, providing rest points within the memorial space.

Adding to the composition are custom corten ruins, installed at 90º angles over restored stone foundations. These structures combine vertical and horizontal corten panels with laser-cut patterns and commemorative text, serving both as spatial dividers and as carriers of historical memory.

The Ganja Memorial Landscape showcases how corten steel architecture, when combined with custom fabrication and precise engineering, can create a powerful space for remembrance. With its blend of symbolic meaning and robust craftsmanship, the project demonstrates the role of architectural metalwork in shaping public memory.
