Custom Corten steel architectural forms for memorial landscape
The Ganja Memorial Complex is defined by fully custom-made Corten steel works, each engineered to address complex technical and spatial challenges. The centerpiece is a spiral-shaped Corten planter, extending across a pre-cast concrete base. Its modular frame, built with bolted joints and custom connections, allowed precise alignment with curved concrete paths while maintaining flexibility. Inside the corten shell, a layered containment box with stone, isolation, and soil prevents direct contact with the steel while supporting planting and natural water flow. Wooden benches following the spiral’s curvature provide functional seating within the commemorative space.
The complex also includes a curved corten memorial wall, supported by a hidden steel frame assembled with bolted joints for efficient transport and installation. Its laser-cut text is illuminated by internal LED lighting, producing a sharp 3D effect without the need for additional materials inside the cutouts. In addition, custom corten ruin forms are mounted at a 90º angle onto stone bases, combining decorative panels with engraved sentences that deliver the memorial’s message while subtly dividing zones within the site.
Together, these works demonstrate how architectural metalwork and corten steel design can transform demanding structural requirements into a unified commemorative environment.
